With a northern location, the resort benefits from good snow cover with a rather cold microclimate, which allows it to be open from December to mid-April without too many snow cover problems. The origin of the resort's name comes from the Montrichelain patois "carèle". When the resort was created, the name “les Karellis” came naturally. The carèle is a smooth and long grass which grows on the mountain pastures, on the sunny slopes of the commune. In the past, shepherds had a hobby of sliding over these grasses with the help of a plank or a coat.
